Tsutomu Miyuki was born and raised in a small town on the coast of Japan. Growing up, Tsutomu’s parents pushed their children to excel in school. However, their hope for the future of their family quickly fell all on Tsutomu when his older brother dropped out of highschool with nothing but failing grades and an addiction to drugs. This was a major loss for the ambitious family, as Sakae expected a lot more from her firstborn son. The social and academic pressure Tsutomu was put under as a young boy caused him to develop a sense of perfectionism and set only the highest of expectations for himself.Tsutomu always had a passion for science, and he was eager to learn more about the field. At the age of eighteen, he started to consider his options for continuing his education. Tsutomu was particularly interested in studying abroad, as he wanted to gain a global perspective and learn from experts in other countries. He researched various programs and universities, and eventually decided to attend school in Germany. He was thoroughly impressed at the country’s reputation for excellence in engineering, as well as its rich history and gorgeous architecture.Tsutomu's life changed when he met Hanna Eisenberg at a small coffee shop in town. He was drawn to her carefree spirit and her passion for life. They were both studying at the same university, but in different faculties. Hanna was studying art, while Tsutomu was studying engineering. Despite their different interests, they hit it off right away and Tsutomu knew he had met the love of his life. They started dating soon after.After graduating university, Hanna and Tsutomu decided to marry and settle in Munich, where Tsutomu had found a job at a large engineering firm. His job brought much unwanted stress onto him, which he relieved through many nights at a bar downtown. Hanna found work as a freelance artist and exhibited her pieces in galleries around Germany. She also taught art classes at a local community center. Their first child, a son named Julio, was born a year after they got married. Two years later, they had twin sons named Alex and Willy, and then a daughter named August a year after that.Hanna loved her home country of Germany and its culture, and she was happy to raise her children there. She taught them about German art and music, and they all enjoyed exploring the country together. Tsutomu struggled with the language and the culture at first, but he eventually learned to love it too.Hanna was a loving mother to their four children, but she still continued to travel for work. She was on a work trip to America to attend an art exhibition when she tragically passed away in a fatal car accident.Tsutomu was devastated by her passing and found it hard to cope with the void left by Hanna’s absence while fulfilling the roles of both mother and father to their children. The weight of his responsibilities often felt overwhelming, leaving him feeling lost and alone. Tsutomu was not able to be the involved and caring father his children needed. As a result, the four kids found themselves navigating through life mostly on their own, facing numerous challenges without much parental guidance.Amidst the heavy burden of grief and alcoholism, Tsutomu grappled with another challenging aspect of his personality - anger issues. The overwhelming emotions stemming from his wife’s tragic death and the stress of raising four children alone often manifested as outbursts of anger, making his journey to recovery even more complex.
His children, too young to fully understand the depth of their loss, longed for their mother’s presence and struggled to comprehend their father’s emotional distance. Tsutomu’s addiction began to take a toll on their family life, causing strain and fractures on their relationship when they needed him most.Despite the difficult circumstances, the children displayed remarkable resilience and determination. They learned to take care of each other and became a tight-knit family unit. They looked out for one another, providing emotional support and trying their best to fill the void left by their late mother and absent father.As the years passed, the siblings grew older and witnessed their father’s behavior spiral further out of control.
